Community Bulletin Board
Assisting the Board of Trustees in the regulation of the township are several boards and commissions. Statutory bodies are the Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.
The Zoning Commission regulates land use and development and holds hearings on amendments to the zoning resolution. The Board of Zoning Appeals hears appeals of decisions concerning the issuance of zoning certificates. In hearing requests for area variances from the zoning resolution, the board considers whether conditions or characteristics of the land may limit the ability of a property owner to comply with the zoning resolution. The board may also consider requests for variances on uses not permitted by the resolution. Variances may be temporary or permanent in nature. Permanent variances are tied to the land, rather than to any one property owner.

The Fire Code Board of Appeals provides an objective forum for settling rare disputes regarding the application or interpretation of fire code requirements in Washington Township.The board consists of members who are qualified by experience and training to pass on matters pertaining to the fire code.
